The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has called for calm and dialogue to address the growing tensions surrounding the electoral process in Somalia’s Jubaland state. In a statement issued today, ATMIS urged all stakeholders to prioritize peace and stability, emphasizing the importance of resolving differences through constructive engagement and adherence to the rule of law.
“ATMIS remains committed to supporting Somalia’s democratic processes and ensuring stability across all regions. We call on all parties involved in the Jubaland electoral process to exercise restraint and engage in peaceful dialogue to resolve disputes,” the statement read.
The appeal comes amid rising tensions and conflicting claims over the management of Jubaland’s elections, which have drawn national and international attention. ATMIS reaffirmed its dedication to working with local and federal authorities to foster unity and maintain security in the region.
The mission further stressed the need for cooperation between Somalia’s federal government, regional states, and political actors to uphold the principles of democracy and safeguard the nation’s progress towards peace and development.
ATMIS concluded its statement by urging all parties to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions and disrupt stability in Jubaland.
